As spotlighted by:
A team of UK doctors and medical students helping international school students get into their dream medical school.
The process of applying to medical school is not only complex but also highly competitive, with competition rates soaring globally to a record high. Successful admission into medical school nowadays requires much more than academic achievements with a constellation of work experience, reflections, extracurricular activities, and volunteering needed to build a competitive profile. When we founded Medefine Education, we made sure our team was fully composed of people who know the medical school application process better than anyone else: UK doctors and medical students who’ve been through the application process and know what success looks like. We’re here to help our international students navigate every single step of the medical school application journey through a 1-to-1 personalised approach. We’re proud of our unblemished track record of placing our students into top medical schools in the UK and across the world, including: Oxford University, Cambridge University, Harvard University, UAE University, UCL, HKUMed, Imperial College London, just to name a few.
Medefine results
Our students have received offers from the world’s best medical schools, including:
What is the Medefine Academy
The Medefine Academy is an international award-winning tutoring programme for getting into Medical School designed for international school students, all done virtually from the comfort of their own home. We carefully interview and handpick the most talented students from around the world to enter a focused one-year-long mentoring programme (or two/three year long programme if applying earlier than Year 12). Our programme includes 1:1 lessons, online or in person work experience placements, and extracurricular activities, all aiming to accelerate students’ growth and help them get a place at their desired medical school in the UK or in other countries of their choice.
Who is the Academy for?
Open to school students who are in one of the following school years (or equivalent): Year 9, Year 10, Year 11 or Year 12.
How long does it last for?
The academy is a one-year long programme for students who are currently in Year 12 (or equivalent). For students wishing to start their preparation earlier than Year 12, the programme could last for two or three years until the medical school application deadline at the start of Year 13. All activities (both the 1-to-1 sessions and work experience placements) are done virtually.
What makes Medefine Academy students successful?
Teaching by doctors and medical students
We differentiate ourselved from other education advisors by having a team of tutors who are are either doctors or medical students. They have all been through the entire application process themselves, meaning they’re drawing from real experience when they’re teaching our students.
Speciality tutoring
1-to-1 sessions will be delivered by a different expert: i.e. academic, doctor, student, or consultant, in each one of the topics (personal statement, entry exams, interviews etc.) to ensure our applicants have full support from a specialist. Overall, our students will benefit from a 7:1 staff to student ratio.
Holistic approach
We also offer personal development and pastoral support as part of the Academy. Each student will be paired up with a personal tutor who will provide support including, but not limited to: well-being advice, burnout prevention, application stress management, as well as motivational coaching sessions delivered by world-renowned speakers.
Fully personalised 1-to-1 support
1-to-1 tutoring which covers every single aspect of the medical school application process.
7,000+ Students taught
We’ve helped over 7,000 aspiring medics through our trusted conferences, events, and tutoring.
01. Top tutors
Our tutors are more than just ‘education advisors’. They range from doctors, surgeons, published researchers, academics, and medical students. Our tutors include:
Medical students
are recruited from top medical schools in various countries who’ve been selected for their academic achievements and teaching ability. They have already reached the success our students strive for and are ready to share their best tips and tricks through 1-to-1 personalised tutoring customised for students’ needs.
London researchers
who teach about the importance of research in the world of medicine. Research is particularly important for students striving for a science-focused medical school such as Oxford, Cambridge, or Imperial College London. To ensure our students stand out from the crowd, they’ll help students gain a deep understanding of medical research principles and can even help them develop their own medical research project.
UK-based doctors and surgeons
Our doctors hail from different specialities including surgery, Paediatrics, Cardiology, Psychiatry etc. and are here to give our students rare insights into the medical field otherwise inaccessible. The Academy students will get to learn, both in theory and in practice, about surgical principles, patient history taking and other medical skills along the way.
02. A step-by-step personalised plan so that our students know exactly what they have to do, at each step
As a Medefine Academy student, matched tutors will create a personalised and comprehensive timetable based on the student’s profile* and achievements. The student will undergo timely preparation for their medical school application journey with our expert guidance and experience. However, students shouldn’t worry about being overloaded with work! We always prioritise our students' schoolwork and exams and ensure our mentoring is embedded alongside other commitments. Students have the option to schedule the sessions based on their preference. For example: some students may decide to have one or two tutoring sessions per month for the entire one-year duration of the Academy, while others may wish to schedule the majority of the sessions during the summer holiday. We value students’ choices and give them full control over their schedule. *We will also provide a brief psychometric test before joining the Academy to help us better match our students to the perfect mentor.
Don’t you know what universities you want to apply to?
Choosing your medical school and navigating the complex UCAS process can be a daunting process especially given the highly competitive ratios experienced when applying to UK-based medical schools. Our aim is to be there at every single step of the process and therefore ensuring we support you with strategies and techniques to make the right choice based on criteria such as:
Ranking of the university
Algorithms and strategies to increase success rates
The application criteria, admission rates and cut-off scores
The teaching style at each medical school including pros and cons
03. Medical School Application from A to Z
Our 1-to-1 teaching sessions are carefully designed to give our students the tools necessary to tackle every step of the medical school application process in detail: from entrance exam preparation to personal statements to work experience preparation. Our sessions delivered by our expert team will reveal the strategies commonly used by the top 1% of applicants and the best tips & tricks which cannot be found online.
Personal statement preparation
We provide every student with a specialist essay mentor — someone who has graduated from our student’s dream university or knows specifically what admissions officers in those particular universities are looking for.
Medical School entry exams
The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) and the Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT) are tough exams that almost all students struggle with. Unfortunately, these test results can determine whether they proceed to that all-important interview: which is why our team focuses on strategy building and ensures our students are fully trained.
Interview preparation
The 1-1 interview preparation and mocks are delivered by tutors who have sat on interview panels before and know what admissions officers are looking for. Students are encouraged to develop strong communication skills through guided training, turning their anxiety into confidence. From being the most challenging part of the application, interviews usually become our students’ favourite part.
04. Extracurricular mentoring and personal development
Our extracurricular mentors help students enhance their application by undertaking, completing, and reflecting upon a range of impressive activities related to their chosen area of study.
Working 1:1 with their mentors, our students develop profiles that demonstrate building:
High academic passion and engagement
Leadership, independence and confidence
Impressive knowledge of relevant topics, industries and professions
Ability to communicate and reflect upon their individual experiences
05. Community and pastoral support
Upon joining our programme, students are automatically enrolled onto our pastoral support programme that includes various events such as webinars on the life of UK-based medical students, doctors and surgeons, motivational coaching sessions, and other supportive events. Students will have the opportunity to share their thoughts, meet colleagues across the world with similar interests, and join fascinating debates. Students will also have access to medical students, and they are welcome to ask them anything. The medical students are there to answer any questions and clear up any confusion at any stage of the application journey!
06. The doctors' mindset
Learning how to think like a doctor is essential to help our students become more effective and maximise their time while studying. The Harvard University module on 'Studying smart' that we employ uses evidence-based strategies to help our members get into the mindset of a doctor. First think like one, then become one. Our Academy ensures applicants have a complete paradigm shift with an added confidence boost. At Medefine, we evolve and grow together.
I’ve got accepted!
I’m gonna become a doctor!
I’m in!
07. Work experience
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the university requirements for work experience have changed drastically and will continue to change. Fewer hospitals accept students to undergo work experience, and Covid-19 regulations make finding work experience extremely challenging. Our Academy members benefit from our numerous work experience opportunities delivered by London-based doctors and surgeons (online or in-person) including surgical work experience, paediatrics work experience, medical work experience, research work experience, and many more. Below are a few events we’ve hosted in the past:
Hospital work experience placements in London (in person and/or online)
Medical Research Laboratory work experience placements at UCL in London (in person and/or online)
Our students are changing the world...for the better!
We go beyond mentoring by empowering our students to undertake an optional project from start to completion with help and guidance. Projects can range from: scientific research, public health initiatives, charity or volunteering. Through such projects, our students get to develop skills that will be beneficial for the rest of their career, including independence, leadership and communication, making their application stand out. Every year we provide a set number of existing projects for students to get involved in, if they wish to. Previous Academy students have successfully conducted projects with NHS England, Harvard University, international charities and local public health awareness campaigns.
Yi-Han, Thailand
By joining the Medefine community, Yi-Han has had the opportunity to join a wide range of seminars, volunteering activities, and projects to support her local community and boost her personal statement and application. Yi-Han has put together a book entitled “Oh! It’s cancer” aiming to help children aged 8-14 who have been diagnosed with the disease to understand cancer better. This is an award winning project which has made her application stand out from the crowd.
Tamar, UAE
Tamar has joined the Young Talent Academy (3 years in advance), gaining access to virtual work experience placements in surgery, paediatrics, and several other medical disciplines as well as receiving mentoring and tutoring on a variety of topics relating to her medical school application. As part of the Medefine Education Academy, Tamar has developed an international organisation to support the delivery of sanitary products to women in Beirut, Lebanon, following the recent explosion. Tamar’s enthusiasm and project will nevertheless help her stand out from the crowd during the application process.
With support from the Medefine Academy, Tamar has developed an international organisation to support the delivery of sanitary products to women in Beirut, Lebanon, following the recent explosion.
This is what we call a true community of enthusiastic and passionate mentors and students!
Beyond mentoring
We take pride in our team who don't just teach students the necessary techniques to getting into medical school but also support and help them develop as a person. The university application process is a frightening commitment with our students often coming to us with frequent questions such as:
How do I know I want to study medicine? Which universities should I apply to? How do I know I’m good enough?
Our expertly trained and experienced team can help answer these questions alongside any others the students may have to ensure they don’t feel overwhelmed at any stage of the process.
Starting early?
For students in Year 9, Year 10 or Year 11
We also accept students currently studying in Year 9, Year 10, or Year 11 to the Medefine Academy. Our multi-year programme perfectly fits those who enjoy planning and strive for success early on. Based on the same principles as the Medefine Academy, students will be assigned a mentor who will help them build on the necessary strategies and skills alongside early preparation for their personal statement, entry exams, work experience, and interviews. Get ahead of the competition by learning and building the most effective strategies!

Mrs. Ngai, parent
To be honest, I only have fully trusted Medefine as they have helped my daughter to get all 5 offers for her dream course in the UK. This is why I am returning to them to support my younger daughter in her application for Veterinary Medicine. I cannot recommend Medefine highly enough for their mentoring and support they also give to us parents.
Mrs. Johana T, parent
I can describe Medefine as hands-on, approachable and helpful. My son Benjamin was offered the confidence and support to reach his dream of being a doctor. 4 years on, I am still impressed with how up to date and knowledgeable the tutors were and I am grateful for Medefine for helping my son become a doctor.
Mrs. Cheung, parent
I am very thankful for all the coaching and guidance offered to my daughter, Rosalyn. It’s really great to see that she is able to stay focused and her passion for medicine keeps growing. No doubt she is in good hands!
